Best Sellers Discussion SIG
The Omnilore Best Sellers Book Discussion SIG, formed in May, 2012, meets via Zoom on the second Monday of each month from noon to 1:00 P.M., to discuss the “book of the month” in a free-form format using open-ended discussion questions. This SIG is open to all Omniloreans who are interested in reading and discussing current best sellers, both fiction and nonfiction. Everyone is welcome to attend whether you’ve finished the book, are in the process of reading it, or are just curious about the topic.
There is no need to enroll, no need to do a presentation… just link into Zoom on the day and time with enthusiasm, prepared to participate. The Zoom password is emailed to members a few days prior to our meeting.
Walking Group
We will have a minimum of six walks a year with as many as six more if volunteer leaders step up to identify an itinerary. The six scheduled walks will start at 10 a.m. on the 2nd Friday of even-numbered months and typically last about an hour and a half.
Computer Talks
Almost every month, Omnilore’s Computer Working Group sponsors a casual, one-hour presentation called a Computer Talk. These presentations cover topics that our members have told us they would like to know more about. Most of the Computer Talks are at a basic level. Occasionally, the Group sponsors workshops on more advanced topics.
All the Computer Talks are 45 minutes long, followed by a 15-minute question-and-answer period. No registration is necessary. The Talks are usually scheduled on the 4th Thursday of the month from 12 noon to 1:00 p.m. in one of the classrooms at Beach Cities Health Center.
Movie Goers
If you are interested in participating in this SIG, please get on the direct email list by emailing to MovieGoers@omnilore.org to be sure you receive future movie going announcements.
STEM Group
The STEM Group holds its discussions within a member’s private home or backyard. Discussions are held once a month, on the first Thursday of each month, from 5pm to 7pm. Members typically bring light refreshments and drinks to share. Interacting with each other socially is vital to the goal of this group. Each meeting is facilitated by a different member, who selects a topic and the background material (video, article, book) to support that topic; most requiring one to two hours of viewing, listening, or reading. If the group decides to go with that topic, and the background material that support it, then the topic is scheduled by the coordinators.
The current co-coordinators can be reached by emailing STEM-Group@omnilore.org.
